| Writer's Block: A political affair |
[Mar. 2nd, 2010|08:55 pm] |
I think it's when politicians are unfaithful to their wives/husbands that the public has the right to know. Because then we have to consider if they'll continue to be faithful to the community. Like Spitzer and the governor of South Carolina were just trash. Plus Spitzer was doing hookers, which is ILLEGAL. We definitely should be able to know if our elected public officials are doing something against the law. If their romantic life is preventing them from performing their duties, then we certainly have the right to know. I mean sure, we don't wanna get all up in people's business all the time, because of breaches of privacy, etc. But when someone puts him/herself in the public spectrum, I think things get a little muddled. They're still people, but they have a serious responsibility to upload and if they're doing things like cheating on their cancer-stricken wives or running off to Argentina, then we can't really trust them, can we? I'm not really looking at it from the politician's POV, but they're so corrupted and stupid anyway, I really don't have much sympathy for them. :\ |

Man, sandwiches are good. Turkey is the ultimate sandwich meat. Or salalmi. Or chicken. But ham is nasty. Then there's bread. Pumpernickel is usually awesome, but you can't go wrong with wheat. And then there's good crusty artisan or French bread. Droooool. Mustard and turkey are HELLA bomb together.
My sandwich tastes change so often.
Best sandwich places I know: Subway, Jimmy John's, Uncle Sammy's, Donna's, Hoagie Hut, any vendor in France, and my mom. |

Much appreciated! |

Online shopping, for sure. Mostly at Urban Outfitters, when there's four about 20 minutes away from me in different directions. I'm just lazy. But I'd give it up if it meant shopping sprees for life there :) |

| Writer's Block: Kill the music |
[Jan. 29th, 2010|02:08 pm] |
Anything, and I mean, anything by Nickelback, Finger Eleven, Daughtry, and those generic bands. I totally love Third Eye Blind but those other ones are absolutely horrific. Also, The Eagles. Even "Hotel California" has lost what little charm it used to have for me. I remember I was driving through the California desert one summer with my cousin and the only radio station we could get out there was playing "Life in the Fast Lane" and I made her turn on the static channel because I couldn't stand listening to that song in such a stereotypical setting.
It's strange because there's so much shit on the radio that I don't listen to, like Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas, Akon, etc. But I feel like everyone just accepts that it's awful. I just like dancing to that kind of music, it's not good for much else. I always listen to "I Gotta Feeling" or another Top 40 and I wonder what kids in twenty years are going to say about it, the way we talk about "Domo Arigato" and those other godawful 80s songs. Popular music has a really simple formula and I think it's fair to say that a lot of it is bad, it's just uncomplicated and easy to listen to.
But there is no amount of money that would make me listen to Nickelback and the Eagles for 24 hours. Just... no. I'd rather be poor, thanks. |

| Writer's Block: Obama drama |
[Jan. 28th, 2010|01:51 pm] |
I missed the voting cut-off by a few months, but the better candidate certainly won in the election in 2008. I've always supported Obama not just because I'm black or because I'm liberal, but because I feel like we need some new initiatives and people in American politics. He's done an average job so far, which is to be expected. With all the problems he's inherited, I don't think it's fair for people to say that he hasn't done very much. He just needs to step it up and stop being all about compromise. Every once in a while, especially with these big issues, he should get them in the way that he thinks will most benefit the American people. Because aren't we really after the common good?
I do think that he needs to step it up a little more and hold the big banks like MorganStanley and Goldman Sachs responsible for what they've done, as well as work harder to help out the middle class. I'm certainly no economist, nor do I have the smallest interest in economics, so I don't know if I really have an important say in these matters. But from what I can gather, there needs to be a limit on these company's bonuses, because they seem to have bounced back from the economic downturn and left all of their clients in the same situation, or oftentimes, a worse one. In all honesty, I see socialism as a good alternative to our government. It seems to work in Sweden, France, and Canada. But it probably wouldn't work here because of the "American" way and such, but people certainly haven't been flourishing in this economic environment. Maybe it's not the economic system, but the mindset about money that needs to change.
And can someone explain to me why I keep seeing these protestors around the nation with Obama depicted as Hitler? Because that makes zero sense. Since when did our president become an authoritative nationalist? Does it have something to do with his fiscal initiatives?
I'm really pleased that he mentioned tolerance for the gay community in the military, but he needs to take it a step further and do something about gay marriage. I don't think it's a religious matter, it should be a civic issue, just like the Civil Rights Movement. People are being denied the rights because of what others believe. And I get the whole democratic "majority rule" thing, but if we're squashing the minority's rights, then that's not really a democracy.
Then, with the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. I used to have a stark belief that we need to get out of both countries and fast, but now I have family and friends who are in the military, who have been deployed to go to Afghanistan and who have come back to say that things are much worse than people on the news covers. The people need help. Afghanistan has the potential to become a better place, whether it becomes a democracy or not, but just the idea that it can function on its own without foreign influence or regime (see Soviet takeover, followed by Taliban rule over the past 30 years), it just needs the opportunity to get on its feet without being taken over again.
I really don't have many ideas of how to get it done, just what should get done. So shoot me, I'm only 18. I think there's a morality issue in America that needs to be fixed and soon. |

| Writer's Block: Back from the dead |
[Jan. 24th, 2010|11:32 am] |
Oh, dear. Probably. I have this really bizarre view of the afterlife, so I'd love to know what it's like. But there's this amazing thing about death and dying and what happens to our souls afterward. I don't know if I want to ruin the surprise or worse, be disappointed in what it's like. There's so many possibilities for this one: Heaven, Hell, reincarnation, Nirvana, etc.
Worst case scenario, the atheists would be right and nothing would happen. Nothing against them, but as far as I'm concerned, that's so BORING. But maybe the rest of us are just so hopeful that life doesn't really "end" once we die because we're that afraid of the void, of what nothingness feels like.
But, whatever. It's not happening anytime soon (knock on wood) so, I don't wanna worry about it now too much. |

[Jul. 31st, 2009|04:48 pm] |
I'm in search of some really good folk/country type music. Think M. Ward, Conor Oberst's self-titled CD, and the Mountain Goats "The Sunset Tree," "Tallahassee," or "Heretic Pride."
Anything of that variety. I'm in need of some bands for drivin' music. |
